I, Cockroach:the sentience of insects

A science kit to create an at-home cyborg cockroach has provoked an industry debate about insects. Do they feel pain? Are they even conscious? Why should we care? They're small, insignificant, a nuisance and well, a bit ugly. But if Darwin spent most of his adult life contemplating earthworms, maybe we shouldn't be so dismissive.
