The math that says egalitarianism is possible

Could a new type of society be on the cards? Rethinking how our society is structured could offer interesting and previously unconsidered solutions to the problems we currently face. Of course, no one is saying that we’d be able to change the way that our nations are built in a day, but the work of evolutionary anthropologist Paul Hopper and his team has gone some way to suggesting that an egalitarian society could work in the future. Brian Gallagher interviews Hopper about the societal model his team built based on two games. First, the model found that “more equal conditions arise because of the importance of cooperation.” Although Hopper concedes that replicating the conditions in an actual society where egalitarianism thrives would be difficult, the potential that this model suggests for overhauling the way we think about our lives is unmatched.
